AIDS

In 1988 I was awarded the first of 12 Artist in Residence Grants from the California Arts Council, for a project entitled “Positive Art”, a community-based public art project in collaboration with several San Francisco Bay Area AIDS services organizations. This community-based work had a major influence on my studio-based artwork for the following 15 years, both aesthetically and also in my consideration of appropriate sites and audiences for this work. Much of this work addressed memory and loss as these issues related to both the personal and the public aspects of the AIDS pandemic.
