Table of Contents

The process of collaboration is an expansive experience for my creative process. I recommend it to all artists. In this piece I collaborated with my husband, John Lavine, who brought extraordinary woodworking skills into the mix. It was made for an exhibition entitled “Turning the Tables: Food, Farms and Sustainability” at Gallery Route One in Point Reyes Station, CA. Table of Contents is a collaboratively made, interactive table, referencing gardening and reading as the essential elements that provide us with our food, both literally and metaphorically. We used the metaphor of a book/cabinet (made from re-used materials) about our food with chapters/drawers that contained the essential elements needed to grow our food. Thanks to the Berkeley Ecology Center’s Bay Area Seed Interchange Library (BASIL) and the Alameda County Waste Management Authority & Source Reduction and Recycling Board for their generosity and the use of their resources.
